Notes About The April 4 Update

I issued a major update to my Vancouver Area Frequency List on April 4, 2025.  Here's what has changed.

Hundreds of new frequencies

Thanks to the help of several people, I have added hundreds of frequencies.  I particularly want to single out Matthew Carroll who kindly provided his own list for me to refer to, and which had a huge section on wildfire management, among other things. These frequencies will be invaluable to listen to in affected areas during emergencies.

The end result of all these changes is that we're now approaching the RT Systems limit of 900 frequencies, but we're still comfortably under it so it isn't a problem yet.

New Memory Bank Organization

I've consolidated all the LADD/RR and Ministry of Transport (Highways) frequencies into one bank called Roads.  I've had to break up Railway and Wildfires into two banks each, as most radios have a limit of 100 frequencies per bank.  The new structure is: Amateur, Distress, Roads, Railway, Railway BC, Marine, Airband, CB, FRS/GMRS, Parks, Search & Rescue, Wildfires, Wildfires Ops, Weather, Shortwave, Broadcast.

Skytrain Frequencies

I had hoped to add the Skytrain Frequencies, but on August 13, 2023, TransLink's SkyTrain operations transitioned to E-Comm's Wide-Area Radio Network, which is fully encrypted.  I tried listening to the old frequencies for a week (I live very close to a Skytrain station) and got nothing.  Skytrain has gone radio silent to those who don't work for Translink.

Errors and Omissions

Please don't hesitate to let me know about any errors or omissions I've made.  I'm grateful for any corrections. You can reach me here.
